David grew up in Orange, California. He received his B.A. in Art and Director of Christian Education Certification from Concordia University, Nebraska. After over 12 years as a youth minister, God called him to attend Conordia Seminary, St. Louis, and become an ordained minister. David has been at St. Paul's since 2013. He is married to Jill, and they have three children: Matthew, Christian and Grayce.

Berhanu Kumalo
Outreach Pastor and Missionary-at-large
Berhanu Kumalo of Ethiopian origin moved to Sacramento California in 2007 with his family. Berhanu has a Bachelor of Arts in Bible and Theology from Addis Ababa Bible College. He then earned a certificate from Concordia Seminary in St. Louis, Missouri to become an ordained LCMS Pastor. Prior to coming to Sacramento, he served as a Church Leader in the United Arab Emirates for 4 years.
Berhanu and his wife Miheret Abebe founded Mercy Holistic Ministry, a non-profit organization, to serve the homeless community in and around Sacramento in 2008 with the mission to provide dignity and the love of Christ with this underserved community. Mercy Holistic Ministry provides mobile hot shower, clothing, haircut, food, hygienic kits and social work services to the unhoused.

Director of Christian Education and family ministry
Jill is from Jefferson City, Missouri, and received her B.A. in Theology and Director of Christian Education Certification from Concordia University, Nebraska, where she met her husband David. Jill served congregations in both California and Texas before marrying David. While their three children were young, she ran a photography business and volunteered in youth ministry and Christian education programs. In addition to leading programs in youth, family and women's ministries, Jill is also the Preschool Director and Administrator.
